Cyc: Mactier takes silver as Ulmer sets world record

Australian cyclist KATIE MACTIER has taken the Olympic silver medal in the 3000m women's
pursuit after being beaten by a world record performance from New Zealand's SARAH ULMER.

MACTIER went out hard from the start in the final as she always does but ULMER reeled
her in during the second kilometre and raced away to win, smashing the world record she
set yesterday by nearly two seconds.

MACTIER's teammate KATE BATES came fourth, after being beaten by defending champion
and four-time Olympic gold medallist LEONTIEN ZIJLAARD-VAN MOORSEL in the bronze medal
race.

Ironically, ZIJLAARD-VAN MOORSEL's time would have been a world record 24 hours earlier.
