NSW; Pledge to reduce payroll tax Chikarovski

SYDNEY, Dec 17 AAP - New South Wales Opposition leader Kerry Chikarovski pledged to bring
the state's payroll taxes into line with other states if she won power at the March state
election.

Mrs Chikarovski said small businesses in NSW paid the highest rate of payroll tax of any
state and medium-sized firms were second highest to Tasmania.

"If we are serious about addressing job creation, then NSW must bring its payroll tax rates
into line with other states," she told a Liberal Party business lunch today.

Mrs Chikarovski also indicated she was committed to the privatisation of the state's power
industry.

"I'm not ideological about privatisation, I don't think that ownership is an issue," she
said.

Mrs Chikarovski foreshadowed high levels of private investment as a means to renewing the
state's infrastructure and attacked the state Labor government for its "spineless surrender"
to unions on electricity reform.

"Labor's delay on electricity reform has cost the people of this state several billion
dollars in lost revenue," she said.
