Qld: Unwanted residents sent packing
A Queensland council is banning American pitbull terriers and other dangerous dog breeds.
The Ipswich City Council's decision is aimed at curbing dog attacks and follows bansby the Toowoomba and Redland's Shire Councils.
The state government last year passed laws to ban the breeding and sale of pitbullsbut breeders avoided them by relocating to unregulated areas.
Ipswich City Councillor PAUL TULLY says owners of registered banned dogs have untilJuly 2004 to remove the animals with a permit system operating until then.
The ban follows three serious attacks by pitbulls in Ipswich over the past six months.
